Read the following article: Open Source and AI In 2015 there was an explosion in Artificial Intelligence research and development. Facebook and Google have open-sourced both A.I. software and hardware. Since the iPhone, there have been personal digital assistants that are used in our everyday lives such as Siri, Google NOW, and Cortana. But along with all of this innovation, there is controversy on the potential of A.I. and how to stop it if it reaches a point of intelligence higher than humans. 1. What is "Open Source?" What does it mean for you? 2. What do you know about AI? What does it mean? What are the implications of its wide spread development? 3. After reading the article, what parts of the article did you find most interesting? Why?

1. Open source is a software freely shared with the ward. I have not heard enough about open source for it to mean much to me right now but it is definitely something I am interested in.

Open Source software is software containing source code that can be inspected and modified by anyone. a good example of open source software is social media platforms, which allow users to make accounts and post photos and add comments, all of which involves manipulating source code. Open source software is extremely powerful for humans, allowing us to access and contribute information to millions of people through use of manipulating code. Artificial intelligence to my knowledge is any technology that can learn and develop in a similar way to how humans do, essentially code or technology that can be taught to recognize, mimic or learn. AI is extremely important because it is some of the most technologically advanced concepts being worked with right now. The ability for a machine to learn and change in a similar manner to how the human brain learns and changes be extremely powerful, as code can be written to not only accomplish a task, but adapt to its surroundings in the process and respond accordingly to user variations. The most prominent example that I have seen with AI is characters in video games. A very clear example of this is the ghosts in the pacman arcade game, which use AI to follow pac man. These ghosts are able to learn and adapt to the path that pac man would take in the game, as it will likely vary between users. After reading this article, it is very interesting to see how these massive corporations such as Google and

1. Until I read the article, I did not know what Open Source software was. Thus, my only definition comes from the article. It is software freely shared with the world at large.
