Signing into Google Classroom
You need your Google Apps for Education account information—email and password—to sign in to Classroom. A Google Apps for Education account is a unique account set up by your school and looks like ***@hinghamschools.edu.
Note: You can’t use your Gmail or any other personal email account to sign in to Classroom. If you don't know your account details, ask your school’s Google Apps administrator.

Sign in for the first time
- Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.
- Enter your Google Apps for Education username and click Next. A Google Apps for Education account is a unique account set up by your school and looks like ***@hinghamschools.edu.
- Enter the password your administrator gave you and click Sign in.
- Read the welcome message and click Accept.
- In the bottom-right corner, click Student.
Enrolling in a Class
Join a class using the class code
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- At the top, click Add.
- Enter the class code and click Join.
- If your teacher included a class overview, click About at the top to review it.
Posting to a Class
You can share a post with your class or comment on an item in a class stream at any time. All posts and comments appear under the item in the stream.

Add a class comment
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- Click the class.
- At the bottom, click Add and Create post.
- In the box, enter your message.
- To attach a file from your computer, Google Drive item, YouTube video, or link:
- Click the appropriate icon.
- Locate and select the relevant item and click Add.
- To attach a link, enter or paste the link and click Add.
- If you decide that you don't need the attachment, click Remove next to it.
- (Optional) If you decide that you don't need to post the message, click Cancel.
- Click Post.
Add a comment to a post
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- Click the class.
- Locate the post and in the Add class comment box, enter your comment.
- (Optional) If you decide that you don't need to post the comment, click Cancel.
- Click Post.
Reply to a comment
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- Click the class.
- Hover over the comment you want to reply to and click Reply. The person you are replying to is automatically mentioned in the reply.
- Enter your reply and click Post.
Email Notifications
By default, you receive an email notification when any of the following events occur:
To change your email notifications setting:
- Someone adds a comment to your post.
- An assignment is created for one of your classes.
- An assignment is returned to you.
- One of your teachers changes a grade or posts an announcement.
- A teacher sends a private comment to you regarding an assignment.
To change your email notifications setting:
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- At the top, click Menu .
- Click Settings (you might need to scroll down).
- Check or uncheck the Send email notifications box.
Viewing Assignments
View work in the class stream
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- Click the class.
- Click a title to see any instructions or feedback.
Turning in Assignments
How you submit an assignment depends on whether or not you have anything to attach. There are 2 options:
Files that you attach or create for an assignment can be viewed and edited by your teacher before you click Turn In. This can be helpful if you need your teacher to review a file before you officially submit it.
If you have the assignment open in Google Docs, simply click Turn In in the top corner. You’ll have the option to add a private message to your teacher as well, if needed.
Mark an assignment done
- Turn in—If you need to attach anything to the assignment, follow the steps to turn in an assignment.
- Mark done—If you are not adding any attachment to the assignment, follow the steps to mark an assignment done.

- Go to classroom.google.com.
- Click the class and then click the assignment. Note: You can also access your assignments on the Work page or in the class calendar.
- If your teacher used Google Forms, click the form and answer the question. Click Turn In. If the form is the only work, your assignment is automatically marked done.
- If there's other work to be done on the assignment, click Open Assignment.
- If your teacher attached a Google Drive item, click the thumbnail to open and review it.
- To attach an item:
- Next to Add, click the Down arrow.
- Click Drive, Link, or File.
- Select or enter the attachment and click Add.
- To create a new attachment:
- Next to Create, click the Down arrow and select the file type. Under Your work, a new file will appear.
- Click the file and enter your information.
- (Optional) To remove an attachment, click Remove .
- (Optional) To add a private comment to your teacher, enter it in the box and click Post.
- Click Turn In and confirm. The status of the assignment changes to Done.
Mark an assignment done
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- Click the class and then click the assignment. Note: You can also access your assignments on the Work page or in the class calendar.
- (Optional) Add a private comment to your teacher, if needed.
- Click Mark As Done and confirm. The status of the assignment changes to Done.
Student Access of Shared Calendar
Use your class calendar to keep track of upcoming work. When your teacher creates an assignment, Classroom automatically adds it to your calendar. You can view your class calendars in Classroom or in Google Calendar.

- Go to classroom.google.com.
- At the top, click Menu.
- Click Calendar.
- Tap an assignment or question to open it.

- Click the class.
- Click About.
- Next to Calendar, click Open in Google Calendar.
Unenrolling from a Class
At the end of a semester or school year, you may want to remove a class from Classroom to help keep your current classwork organized. A teacher may archive the class, but if they don’t, you can unenroll from it. If you unenroll from a class, you’ll no longer see the class when you sign in to Classroom. However, you can still access all your class files in Google Drive.
- Go to classroom.google.com.
- On the class card, click More Unenroll.
- To confirm, click Unenroll.
